25/09/18 - INTRODUCING OUR NEW #10... KIERNAN HUGHES-MASON! Tasman United is excited to announce the signing of Kiernan Hughes-Mason for the 2018-19 season. Hughes-Mason is 26 and has carved out a successful non-league career after spending time as a youth player at Arsenal, Tottenham, and making his professional debut for Millwall. Hughes-Mason is a quick and intelligent goal poacher that is looking forward to making an impact in the National League. TU Head Coach Andy Hedge had this to say, “Kiernan has come in and trained well over the last couple of weeks and fits well into our group. We were looking for an attacking player to fill the last foreign spot and along with our Oceania signing who will be announced next week, we have two high quality finishers in our squad, with guys like Tod-Smith, Ridsdale and Worrall also all capable of contributing goals for us to back them up.”
12/09/18 - MCCLAY EXTENDS STAY! Tasman United is excited to announce the next member of the squad for the upcoming season with Nelson Suburbs midfielder James McClay signing on. McClay is a versatile left-footed midfielder who played for Maiden City FC before transferring to Nelson Suburbs for the winter season. TU Head Coach Andy Hedge had this to say, "James is a talented, hard-working midfielder that adds to our squad quite nicely. Suburbs rate him highly on and off and the pitch and we are delighted to have him for the summer."
11/09/18 - FOX COMES HOME! Tasman United is excited to announce the return of Fox Slotemaker to the region for the 2018-19 National League Season. After a successful college career in the US with Buffalo and Old Dominion University, Slotemaker has just completed the Queensland NPL season with Cairns FC. A talented and gritty defender, Slotemaker shapes to play a key role defensively for Tasman in the upcoming season. TU Head Coach Andy Hedge had this to say, “Fox is one that we wanted straight away. A quality player on the pitch and a good character off it. I am delighted to sign him for the club this season, as he is still a young footballer, but with experience behind him now. And it’s always nice to bring top Nelson talent back to the region to play for their hometown.“
06/09/18 - CHESTER ONBOARD! Tasman United is excited to announce last year’s Youth Team Co-Captain Chester Gaskin has signed on for the Senior Squad for the 2018-19 season. Gaskin is an energetic midfielder by trade, but has played in the back 4 at times for Nelson Suburbs during the MPL season. Another youth product coming through to the Senior team shows the pathway is working for the region. TU Head Coach Andy Hedge had this to say, “Chester is a tenacious young player that can play in a couple of different positions. He has stepped up to the MPL this winter season and now he has another chance to step up and get more experience in the National League.”

30/08/18 - YONG RETURNS! Tasman United is excited to announce the return of Jordan Yong to the club for the 2018-19 season. After returning to NZ late last year, Jordan has played a key role for Nelson Suburbs during the MPL season, and is set to play another big part for Tasman. With years of UK Non-League experience behind him, Jordan is a top draw left footed defender with the ability to bomb forward and threaten in the attacking third. TU Head Coach Andy Hedge had this to say, “Jordan stood up immediately when I first watched him play and his quality is clear to see. He can be one of the best left backs in this league and he will play a massive role in the team. I am very much looking forward to working with him.“
20/08/18 - RIDSDALE RETURNS!!
Tasman United is excited to announce the return of Alex Ridsdale to the 2018-19 squad. After returning home from Xavier University, Alex has played for the club for the first two seasons and has also been a part of the Nelson Suburbs MPL Squad this season. Alex is a hard-working attacking midfielder with the ability to create and score goals from midfield. He is welcomed back to the club, and will look to him to help lead the team into the new season. TU Head Coach Andy Hedge had this to say, ”I’m really excited to welcome Alex back to the club. He’s got a lot of experience at this level for such a young man and he’s exactly the type of character that we want to work with.”
16/08/18 - BERTIE IS BACK!!
Tasman United are excited to announce Bertie Fish is returning to the club after playing a part during the Foundation Season. Bertie has recently returned from 12 months in the UK to play for Nelson Suburbs over the last couple of months. Another talent that has come through the Nelson College and Youth League pathway, he is an intelligent defensive midfielder that can also play in multiple positions at the back. TU Head Coach Andy Hedge had this to say, “Bertie plays with a maturity well beyond his years and his quality on the ball will allow us to develop play through him in a number of positions. He's another local lad that is ready for this level.”
14/08/18 - TASMAN CONFIRM TOD-SMITH
Tasman United is excited to announce Matt Tod-Smith as the club’s third squad addition for the 2018-19 National League Season. After playing for Tasman United last season, Tod-Smith has recently returned from the UK to bolster Nelson Suburbs for the latter part of the season. Well known in the Nelson and Tasman region, Matt has come through the Nelson College and Youth League team pathway to establish himself in the senior squad and is shaping to play a big part for the team.
TU Head Coach Andy Hedge had this to say, "I am absolutely delighted to get his commitment and signature for the upcoming National League season. Matt’s form recently for Nelson Suburbs has been of a really high level. He’s a clever, creative young Nelsonian who has a lot of potential and I’m really looking forward to working with him.“
27/07/18 - PLAYER ANNOUNCEMENT! HICKEY FIRST UP!
Tasman United is excited to announce the first member of the 2018-19 season squad, with Tom Hickey agreeing terms to join the club. Hickey is well known in the Nelson region from this time with Richmond AFC in 2017 and is a fantastic addition to the squad with his defensive and leadership talents. Hickey finished his last season in the UK as captain of Met Police FC, and arrived back in Nelson with his partner in April. Hickey is currently finishing the winter season in Wellington to help him prepare him for the National League with pre-season training starting in mid-september. TU Operations Manager Matt Campbell was happy to get Tom on board and said, “This is a great first up signing for the squad and the club in general. He is top top quality on and off the pitch – and I know will be a real fan favourite with his fearless attitude and the way he plays the game.”

05/07/18 Nelson Pine Industries LVL Tasman United have appointed the highly respected Andy Hedge to the Head Coach position for the upcoming ISPS Handa Premiership season. Hedge is well known in NZ football circles, is a UEFA A qualified coach, and was previously in the National League with the Wellington Phoenix Reserve team from 2014-2017. Prior to that Hedge, has held roles with NZ Football and Capital Football. Nelson Bays Football General Manager Nic Foster was delighted with the appointment “Andy is a fantastic signing and a huge coup for the franchise. Having a top-level coach in this region will enable our team to be very competitive. His background in youth development also appealed to us and his man-management skills are second to none. It’s an exciting time for this club, with Matt Campbell our Tasman United Operations manager and Andy now able to build a squad that competes with the best in the country”.
11/05/18 Nelson Bays Football are delighted to announce Matt Campbell as the new Tasman United Operations Manager for 2018/2019 season. Campbell was appointed from a strong list of candidates and brings a wealth of knowledge about the franchise having been involved from day one. The appointment is a new one for Nelson Bays Football who are looking to strengthen the franchise both on the field and off the field. Matt Watson was pleased to have someone of Matt’s expertise in the role “ Matt Campbell is very football savvy and knows the Tasman United challenges and brings a great energy and expertise which will help us develop the Tasman United brand into a highly thought of Football entity”. Campbell will be working closely with the new General Manager of NBF Nic Foster and the Tasman United board. Mark Sheehan the Tasman United Chair was also particularly pleased with the appointment “Tasman United has had two great seasons but we are ambitious and really want this franchise to achieve great things. There is an awful lot to do and having someone like Matt Campbell managing operations is going to make the outfit even more professional and ultimately successful.” Campbell will hit the ground running in early June. Tasman United play their first 2018 match in early October.
23/04/18 Appointment of new Nelson Bays Football General Manager: The board of Nelson Bays Football (NBF) has appointed Nic Foster as its new General Manager. He will start in the role on May 1st and replaces Clive Beaumont who resigned in early March. Foster comes into the role with more than 13 years’ experience in local football but he also brings an entrepreneurial management background from within the arts sector. He has created and managed Art Expo Nelson since 2012 and developed the show into a nationally recognised success. NBF chair Matt Watson is excited about the appointment “Nic brings a fresh approach to the role and has expertise across a lot of areas the association can really use at this moment. He knows the footballing landscape and understands the importance of a sporting association’s need to future proof its aspirations with sound strategic planning.” The association is also looking to appoint an Operations Manager for the Tasman United Youth and National League teams.
